Airsoft is a modern combat sport or recreational hobby (and some of you like me, thought it was a mattress). Generally participants eliminate opponents by hitting each other with spherical airsoft pellets, launched from airsoft guns. Participants typically employ the use of varying types of weapons designed as replicas of real firearms, tactical gear, and accessories used by modern military and police organizations.

Airsoft BB guns are ideal for anyone interested in target practice indoors or out, in a fun, secure environment that provides all the benefits of modern firearm usage while avoiding the risks. The design of the Airsoft BB gun revolves around a unique propulsion system utilizing a small amount of air to accurately shoot lightweight plastic BB pellets. This design philosophy resulted in an airsoft BB gun, which generates a non-lethal projectile that is still accurate enough to be fun.

Manufacturers have modeled Airsoft BB guns after world famous pistols and rifles. They were created with amazing durability and detail. An entire line of Replica Airsoft products were created, which drew hobbyist players and collectors. In addition to its hobby collector market, the new Airsoft BB guns have created new uses in firearm safety training, movie productions, replica collecting, and recreational sport. The combination of realism, safety, flexibility, and low cost make Airsoft more appealing to the average consumer who would like to exercise his or her steady eye/hand coordination without the inherent dangers (safety glasses must still be worn for protection).

History

Airsoft BB guns have a relatively long history, dating back to the late 1970s. They were designed and marketed in the United States by a major BB gun manufacturer. Airsoft was conceptualized as a new approach in BB gun application. The gun was created with a pure recreational application in mind to replace the utilitarian air gun designed for hunting. This created a huge splash not only here in the United States, but it also brought this hobby to the rest of the world. Japan is one such country, where firearms were difficult or impossible to obtain due to local laws. Therefore persons sought a legal alternative to owning actual firearms.

Many Asian countries apart from Japan and other countries caught the craze and took the development of Airsoft to new heights. Over several generations of development and constant improvement, Airsoft BB guns are now returning to the States with newer and better designs. The highly matured plastic polymer technology industry in Asia has created a new generation of Airsoft BB guns with amazing durability and detail. The vast majority of airsoft guns, accessories, and after market upgrade parts are also manufactured in Far Eastern countries such as Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Safety Tips

Okay, we don’t want you to shoot yourself in the foot or anyone else’s foot for that matter, so here are a few
safety tips. You disregard them at your own peril.

Although airsoft guns operate on completely different principles to real firearms and are not lethal, basic
airsoft safety should be followed to prevent the random chance of injury during play. The four fundamental
rules of firearm safety are:

	Treat all firearms as if they are loaded and ready to fire
	Always point the gun away from anything and every thing that is not intended to be shot
	Keep fingers away from the trigger and outside the trigger guard until ready to play
	Always be sure of the target and what is behind it
